Swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 metre butterfly
The competition over 100 meters Butterfly Men at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held on 2 and 3 August 2012 at the London Aquatics Centre. 43 athletes took part.
There were six heats. The 16 fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the two semi-finals, which were held on the same day. Again, the finalists qualified through the eight fastest times of both semi-finals.

Matsuda swam the same time as Benjamin Strong in the fourth lead. In the final account, this was enough time for the last participant spot in the semifinals. Matsuda gave up one jump-off strength.

Winner Phelps is the third time in a row Olympic champion in the 100 meter butterfly and the first man to whom this is achieved at the Olympic games. For him, it was the eleventh single victory and 17th gold medal total. Two dead heat there was on this route. Kototyschkin and le Clos struck simultaneously at both got silver, bronze accounted therefore. Also Čavić and Deibler beat behind it at the same time, both have been set at # 4.
