Tacoma Sabercats

The Tacoma Sabercats were an American ice hockey team from Tacoma, Washington. The team played from 1997 to 2002 in the West Coast Hockey League.

History

The Tacoma Sabercats were established in 1997 as a franchise of the West Coast Hockey League. They filled the gap left by the relocation of the Tacoma Rockets of the Western Hockey League Kelowna two years ago in the city. In their first three seasons, they reached the final straightaway each to the Taylor Cup. After they lost in their first year with 1:4 victories in the best- of-seven series, the record champion San Diego Gulls, they completed in the 1998/99 season their most successful season ever. In the finals, the team from Washington could return the favor in San Diego 4-2 victories for the previous year's defeat. In its overall third and last finals Tacoma 2000 failed with a sweep of the Phoenix Mustangs. Then, the Tacoma Sabercats came out no longer on the second playoff round. Following the 2001/ 02 season, the leaders moved the team back from the game operation of the WCHL and solved the franchise on.
