Tapacari is a province in the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes in South America Bolivia - State.

Location

The province is one of sixteen provinces in the southwestern part of the department of Cochabamba. It is bounded on the northwest by the Department of La Paz, on the southwest by the Departamento Oruro, on the south by the province Arque, on the east by the province Quillacollo, and to the north by the province Ayopaya.

The province extends approximately between 17 ° 22 'and 17 ° 49' south latitude and 66 ° 49 ' and 67 ° 22 ' west longitude, its extent from east to west is 55 kilometers from north to south, 45 km.

Population

The population of the province Tapacari has risen in the past two decades by about a fifth last but declined slightly:

41.7 percent of the population speak Spanish, 78.9 percent Quechua, Aymara and 40.0 percent. (1992)

99.6 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 98.5 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

76.6 percent of the population are Catholics, 20.6 percent are Protestant (1992).

Structure

The Tapacari province consists of only one municipality, the municipality Tapacari, which is divided into the following four cantons ( cantones ):

  • Cantón Challa - 6,061 inhabitants ( 2001)
  • Cantón Leque - 3,911 inhabitants
  • Cantón Ramadas - 6,508 inhabitants
  • Cantón Tapacari - 9,429 inhabitants
