Tavda

Tavda (Russian Тавда ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 35 421 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the west of the West Siberian Plain, about 360 km north-east of Yekaterinburg Oblasthauptstadt on the right bank of the same river Tavda, a left tributary of the Tobol river system of the Ob.

Tavda is the center of the district of the same city.

The city was reached in 1916 by a railway line from Yekaterinburg on Jegorschino (now Artjomowski ). In 1969, the line was extended by 185 km Meschduretschenski ( station Ustje - Acha ).

History

Tavda was created in 1910 as a forest worker settlement, which was chosen as the endpoint for a railway line opened in 1916, and received on July 20, 1937 city law.
