By his own testimony bored him singing style in death metal. He had previously founded the band Control Denied and wanted to go with these new ways. The line-up of this band supported him during the recording of The Sound of Perseverance. Some songs on the album were even originally intended for the Control Denied 's debut album. The song Painkiller is a cover of Judas Priest. The song "Spirit Crusher" was released as a single, as well as a music video was released for the song.
