Therese Sjögran

Therese Sjögran ( born April 8, 1977 in Södra Sandby ) is a Swedish football player and current record national of their country.

Career

Clubs

Sjögran began at the age of six years at Harlösa IF playing football. As a twelve year old, she joined Verberöds AIF for which she took up later in the Division 2. In 1997 she moved to laundry IF in the Damallsvenskan and still came in the same year their debut in the Swedish national team. In 2001 she moved on to league rivals Malmö FF Dam, where they remained true even after the name change to LDB FC 2007. After a trip to Sky Blue FC in the United States in 2011, she returned back to Malmö.

National

In 2001, Sjögran part with the national team at the European Championships in Germany and won after a final defeat to Golden Goal against Germany, the silver medal. Two years later she won at the World Cup in the USA - again after a final defeat to Golden Goal against Germany - the silver medal. They also came in the final game to use, as they came off the bench in 53 minutes for Malin Andersson. At the 2004 Summer Olympics she won the national selection with the fourth place. At the European Championships in 2005 she was in the squad when the Swedish team failed in the semifinals. Also part of the team at the 2007 World Championships, the team retired at that time however in the preliminary round.

2007 Sjögran was named successor by Lotta Schelin as Sweden's Player of the Year with the diamond Bollen. Three years later she received the award a second time.

On 7 March 2011 she presented her 166th international match, a record of Victoria Sandell Svensson and raised him on March 9 to 167 games. For the 2011 World Cup, she was nominated as the oldest player of the squad. She came in all three group games used and reached the quarter-finals unbeaten Sweden, where she met to Australia. There, she had already achieved in the 11th minute the game 1-0 ahead in the 16th minute and gave the template to make it 2-0 by Lisa Dahlkvist. With the 3-1 victory, both the semi-final against Japan has been reached, as well as qualifying for the London Olympics. In the semifinals, she made her 175th international match. Although Sweden took the lead 10 minutes 1-0 lead, but three goals of Japanese women prevented the second finals after 2003. On July 16, 2011 she won with the team the 3rd place match in a 2-1 victory over France.

Due to a cruciate ligament injury which she contracted in training in end of May 2012, she could not participate in the Olympic Games in 2012. After her convalescence she was in the season of 2013, although the players regularly used, but by the end of June, it was only in one of their eleven league appearances in the starting XI. Nevertheless, they nominated coach Pia Sundhage National surprising for the European Championship finals in 2013. During the test match against England on July 4, 2013, it was brought on for the second half and came so to her 183 international duty. In the European Championship finals she was first off the bench in the third group game for the second half and after 47 minutes resulted in one of its edges to an own goal by the Italian defender Raffaella Manieri, which Sweden took the lead 1-0 (final score 3-1 ). In the semi-final against Germany, they came in the second half, again used, but could be no turning the game so that the Swedish team again a co- match against Germany lost and was eliminated.
