Thiersheim is a market in the district of Wunsiedel ( government district of Upper Franconia ) and the seat of the administrative community Thiersheim. The place is located in the Fichtel Mountains, near the border with the Czech Republic directly on the A93 (junction 11, Thiersheim ).

History

The name Thiersheim probably derives from the home of Teor (or Tior, animal). In 1182 Thiersheim was first documentary mention in a confirmed by the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa donation of the place at the Benedictine monastery Reichenbach. From 1415 to 1791 Thiersheim was under the rule of the former castle of the Counts of Nuremberg and later Margrave of Brandenburg and Bayreuth. The Margravate Ansbach -Bayreuth belonged from 1500 to the Frankish Empire circle and came in 1792 to the Kingdom of Prussia. By prior four years of French occupation of the city came in 1810 with the Kingdom of Bavaria. 2007 took place a solemn historical pageant and a historic market under the 825- year celebration.

Incorporations

On 1 January 1977, until then independent municipality stemma was incorporated. On April 1, 1977 were part of the dissolved municipality Kothigenbibersbach added. Birkenbühl as well as parts of the territory of the dissolved municipalities and Graf Reuth Black Hammer followed on 1 January 1978. Effective April 1, 2013, a portion of the unincorporated area Hohenberger was incorporated into forestry.

Culture and sights

Cemetery

In the public cemetery reminds a concentration camp tomb with a memorial stone in 22 concentration camp victims who have lost their lives through the Nazi tyranny and were buried here. The reburial of the victims, who had initially been buried at the roadside of the " evacuation march " from the Buchenwald concentration camp for Flossenbiirg to the Graveyard Thiersheim took place in January 1946; the inauguration of the memorial stone was held on 12 August 1948.
