Region

Tirmini is a rural municipality in the Department Takeita in Niger.

Geography

Tirmini lies in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Falenko and Olléléwa in the north, Dakoussa and Zinder in the east, and Droum Ichirnawa in the south and Garagoumsa and Ourafane in the West. The municipality is divided into 97 administrative villages, 15 villages and 52 hamlets traditional. The main town in the rural community is the administrative village Tirmini.

History

On July 29, 1899, the French mission Voulet - Chanoine defeated at the Battle of Tirmini the powerful sultanate of Zinder. On July 30, 1899, the city of Zinder could be taken without a fight. This was an important stage on the way to the establishment of the French colony of Niger. In Tirmini there is still a traditional seat of power (French: chefferie traditionnal ), which is subordinate to the Sultan of Zinder. The boss of Tirmini bears the ruler title Barma.

The rural community Tirmini 2002 went out as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Tirmini. Since 2011 part of the rural community not to Mirriah Department, but for the newly established Department Takeita.

Population
