Tishomingo County, Mississippi

The Tishomingo County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. In 2010, the County had 19,593 inhabitants and a population density of 17.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Iuka, which was named after a chief of the Chickasaw.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme northeastern Mississippi is bordered on the north by Tennessee. To the east of the Tennessee River forms part of the boundary of the county to Alabama. History

The Tishomingo County was formed on February 9, 1836 from the Chickasaw country. It was named after a chief of the Chickasaw, a North American Indian people.

Economy

In the northern part of the county at the Yellow Creek of Pickwick Lake built from 1978, the Tennessee Valley Authority, a nuclear power plant. After 30 % were completed in 1982, the building was set. In 1988 a plant for rocket engines, NASA began on the site build. These projects in 1992 was abandoned by cuts in NASA's budget. As a result, the government of Mississippi and the County began on the site under the name " Tri-State Commerce Park " to develop an industrial site. The development of the site is carried out by the Tishomingo Railroad and a small port on the Tennessee - Tombigbee Waterway.
