Tobias Koch

Tobias Koch ( born September 11, 1968 in Kempen, Niederrhein) is a German pianist.

Life

Tobias Koch studied 1989-1995 in the master classes of the Robert - Schumann-Hochschule in Dusseldorf and at the music academies in Vienna, Graz and Zurich. He received it from such diverse personalities as the pianist David Levine, Roberto Szidon, Jos van Immerseel and Malcolm Bilson Artistic suggestions. His studies were funded by the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Richard Wagner Association (Bayreuth Scholarship ). Since then, his concert career takes him through almost all European countries.

Numerous awards show his artistic activities, including the Prize of the City of Dusseldorf Music (1999), the Melted - and - Bickenbach Prize of the Robert - Schumann-Hochschule in Dusseldorf and the Ernst- Klusen Culture Prize of the city of Viersen. As a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist he performs at major festivals at home and abroad, including the Schleswig -Holstein Music Festival, Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, Beethoven Festival Bonn, Chopin Festival Warsaw, Verbier Festival, Rheingau Music Festival, Schumannfest Dusseldorf, Zwickau Schumann Festival days, Leipzig Schumann week and at the Mendelssohn Festival days at the Leipzig Gewandhaus. Also in the music dramatists Tobias Koch operates: he published articles on performance practice, rhetoric and aesthetics of music, writes his texts accompanying CD recordings, develops its own concert series and program designs concepts. In 2007 he founded the Norbert Burgmuller Society Dusseldorf, he was its first chairman until 2012. He maintains close cooperation with numerous institutions and museums, the historical musical instruments store ( including the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Hamburg - Collection Beurmann, Museum of Musical Instruments Leipzig, Museum Vleeshuis Antwerp / Belgium, Clavierland Kremsmuenster / Austria ). As with the historical performance practice familiar pianist manages and collects Tobias Koch instruments by major instrument manufacturers like Johann Bernhard Klems and Erard.

1995-1999 he taught at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and gives master classes at the European Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Montepulciano, Chamber Opera Schloss Rheinberg and Colonel Musiksommer, since 2008 at the Robert- Schumann-Hochschule in Dusseldorf. Since 2000 he has worked as an official pianist and coordinator for major music competitions and festivals such as " Concours Reine Elisabeth Bruxelles " and " Verbier Festival and Academy ."

Repertoire

Tobias Koch is dedicated to the equally historically - informed piano playing as well as musicological studies. He belongs to a new generation of pianists who play with unorthodox performance practice any style of music on the most appropriate keyboard instrument, except clavichord, harpsichord, fortepiano, romantic and modern concert grand piano or organ. In accordance with the same naturalness his repertoire includes works by Renaissance composers such as Orlando Gibbons to Karlheinz Stockhausen's avant-garde compositions.

With a special affinity for encyclopedic projects it leads to the complete piano works by Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Norbert Burgmuller, Robert Schumann and Arnold Schoenberg. In recent years, Tobias Koch has made a name for itself as the historical performance practice familiar Schumann Performer.

Meanwhile, Tobias Koch has appeared in over 200 radio and TV productions, including at WDR, SWR, BR, MDR, NDR, Germany radio, DLR culture as well as at Radio Klara, BRT, RTBF (Belgium) and radio stations in Russia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy, Holland and France.
