Tom Baker

Thomas Stewart " Tom" Baker ( born January 20, 1934) is an English actor and comedian. His most famous role is that of the fourth Doctor from 1974 to 1981 in Doctor Who.

Life

Early life

Baker was born in Scotland Road, Liverpool, the son of Mary Jane, a cleaning lady, and John Stewart Baker, a sailor. Baker grew up in the working class. He left with 15 school and spent six years as a monk. He served from 1955 to 1957 in the British Army Medical Corps. At the time he began acting as a hobby.

Before Doctor Who

1971 Baker got his first role as Rasputin in Nicholas and Alexandra. In 1972, he starred in The Canterbury Tales.

Doctor Who (1974-1981)

1974 Baker took the lead role in Doctor Who from Jon Pertwee. He was obliged for his performance in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.

As a doctor were his ultra long, colorful scarves and his " Jelly Babies" his trademark. Baker had the role of the Doctor's longest active pause - for seven consecutive years. Personal life

Baker married in 1961 Anna Wheatcroft. They had two sons, and were divorced in 1966. In 1980 he married Lalla Ward, who played two years in Doctor Who his companion Romana. The marriage lasted 16 months. 1986 married Sue Jerrard Baker, a co-author in Doctor Who. Since 2006 he lives with her in Sussex.
