Tom Bolack

Thomas Felix " Tom" Bolack ( born May 18, 1918 Cowley County, Kansas; † 20 May 1998 in Farmington, New Mexico ) was an American politician and 1962-1963 Governor of the State of New Mexico.

Early years

Although Tom Bolack visited some public schools; however, he had himself acquired through correspondence courses, most school knowledge. He soon became a successful businessman in the oil and gas industry. In Albuquerque, he conversed with the Albuquerque Dukes own baseball team as well as a natural history museum.

Political career

Bolack was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1952 and 1954 he served as mayor of Farmington. From 1956 to 1958 he was a member of the House of Representatives from New Mexico. In 1957, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. In November 1960 he was elected lieutenant governor of his state. Following the resignation of Governor Edwin L. Mechem on November 30, 1962 Bolack had to end its remaining until January 1, 1963 term of office. During this time he appointed his predecessor Mechem for U.S. Senator. On January 1, 1963, he handed over the office of governor to the newly elected in November 1962 Jack M. Campbell.

After the end of his governorship to Bolack drew largely withdrew from politics. He devoted himself to his business activities. In 1976, however, he was a member of a commission to improve the electoral laws of New Mexico. In 1985 he suffered a stroke which confined him to a wheelchair. Tom Bolack died in May 1998, two days after his 80th birthday. He was married to Alice swordmaker, with whom he had three children.
