Tomas Cabili

Tomas " Sultang Demasang kay -ko ​​- Ranao " Lluisima Cabili ( born March 7, 1903 in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, † March 17, 1957 at Mount Manunggal, Cebu Province ( plane crash ) ) was a Filipino politician.

Biography

After Beusch of Iligan Primary School 1911-1915 and Iligan Elementary School from 1915 to 1918, he attended the Zamboanga Provincial High School ( 1919-1920 ), the Cebu High School ( 1920-1921 ), the Silliman Institute ( 1921 to 1922) and the Cebu Provincial High School ( 1922-1923 ) four different secondary schools. He then studied at the University of the Philippines in Cebu and graduated in 1925 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA ) from. He then completed 1925-1927 postgraduate studies in law at the Visayan Institute in Cebu, before in 1929 he completed his studies with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ) at the Philippine College of Law. After the lawyer's approval, he began working as a lawyer in Lanao del Norte.

He also worked as a journalist and first reporter at The Advertiser, before he was in 1924 and 1926, a reporter at The Freeman of Cebu. He was, from 1930 to 1932 correspondent for National News Service and from 1933 to 1935 in the newspapers DMIM and The Graphic.

1934 he was appointed Justice of the Peace for the municipal districts of Lanao and Dansalan.

In 1935 he was elected member of the Constituent Assembly ( Constitutional Assembly ) and represented the interests of there Lanao del Norte. In the Assembly, he was a member of the committees on agriculture, law, Franchising, for local and provincial administration, the national language Filipino, for public education, for Mindanao and special provinces, for funds for the civil service and public land. After all, he was the only member of the Constitutional Convention, which did not sign the Constitution of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, whose formal ratification took place on February 8, 1935.

Cabili 1938 was again elected to the National Assembly and the second was not only Chairman of the Committee on privileges, but also a member of the Committees on Agriculture, for funds for forestry, Mindanao and special provinces as well as for national companies.

Between 27 February and 11 July 1945, he was defense minister in the government of President Sergio Osmeña.

1946 Tomas Cabili became a member of the Senate and belonged to this until November 1955. During this time he was also the 1950-1953 Majority Leader ( Majority Floor Leader) and thus leader of the government majority in the Senate.

Cabili died with President Ramon Magsaysay and 23 others in a plane crash on Mount Manunggal in the province of Cebu.

In his home town of Iligan City Barangay Tomas Cabili has been named after him since 16 March 1982. In addition, the Tomas Cabili National High School is named in Iligan City.
