Transat Québec-Saint-Malo

The regatta Transat Québec Saint- Malo (also: Transat Québec / Saint- Malo and other spellings ) is a prestigious offshore sailing regatta, which runs from Quebec in Canada without interruption across the North Atlantic to Saint -Malo. It takes place since 1984, held every four years and attracts every time to renowned racing sailor. The participating boats - one- as well as multi-hull boats - sailing from teams of at least three persons. According to the organizers, it is the only transatlantic race for teams in the west-east direction.

A special feature of the regatta is the combination of a long stretch of river ( the St. Lawrence River ) with an Atlantic crossing; the stretch of river takes on an almost one-third of the total distance, even if the boats move forward relatively quickly there because of the flow.

The first edition of the regatta in 1984 recalled the 450 th anniversary of the first voyage of the navigator and explorer Jacques Cartier in Saint- Malo, the 1534 the St. Lawrence Gulf and reached up sailed. Organizer is Voile International Québec (2011 ).
