The USNS Navajo (T- ATF -169 ) is a tug of the United States Navy and is part of the Powhatan class. It is used since 1980 in the U.S. Navy.

History

The ship was laid on 14 December 1977 at the Marinette Marine Shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin on Kiel. The launch took place on 20 December 1979, for further outfitting the Catawba was passed on 13 June 1980, the Military Sealift Command of the U.S. Navy.

The ship was originally assigned to the U.S. Pacific Fleet, but currently is part of the Naval Fleet Auxiliary Force and is used worldwide.

In the summer of 2006, she dragged the Belleau Wood from Pearl Harbor out into the Pacific, where the helicopter carrier was sunk as a reef during SINKEX 2006.

Regularly, the Navajo is requested from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography to haul the unpowered floating instrument platform in research area.
