Velyka Bilozerka Raion

The Rajon Welyka Biloserka (Ukrainian Великобілозерський район; Russian Великобілозерський район / Welikobloserski rayon ) is an administrative unit in Ukraine within the Zaporizhia Oblast. The Rajon Welyka Biloserka was founded in 1923, abolished in the meantime and re- established in 1993. It has an area of 470 km ², a length from east to west 17 ​​km and a population of 8,323 inhabitants ( 2010). With its population density of only 18 inhabitants per km ², it is one of the most sparsely populated Rajone throughout Ukraine.

The administrative center is the village Welyka Biloserka, located in the west of the Zaporizhia Oblast 120 km southwest of Oblastzentrum Zaporizhia, 30 km south of Enerhodar and 38 km south-east of Kamianka - Dniprowska on the banks of the river Biloserka (Ukrainian Білозерка ).

Geography

The Rajon bordered to the west by the Rajon Verkhny Rohatschyk of Kherson, on the north by Rajon Kamianka - Dniprowska, to the east by Rajon Wassyliwka and on the south by Rajon Wessele. By Rajon flows the Biloserka, a 84.8 km long left tributary of the Dnieper.

Administrative Divisions

At the municipal level of Rajon is divided into five villages with eight district municipalities. The village Welyka Biloserka is the only one in Ukraine, which is divided into four councilors. Accordingly, this Rajon unlike any other divided in Ukraine. Firstly, in the village Welyka Biloserka with the following councils:

  • District Municipality Welyka Biloserka (Ukrainian Великобілозерська сільська рада )
  • District Municipality Chervona (Ukrainian Червона сільська рада )
  • District Municipality Trudowa (Ukrainian Трудова сільська рада )
  • District Municipality Nowopetriwska (Ukrainian Новопетрівська сільська рада )

And in four other villages which form a separate district municipality respectively.
