Verkhnyaya Tura
Verkhnyaya Tura (Russian Верхняя Тура ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 9461 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city lies on the eastern edge of the Ural Mountains, about 190 km north of the Oblasthauptstadt Yekaterinburg, on the river Tura. The climate is continental.
The city Verkhnyaya Tura forms a separate urban district and is located 10 km northeast of the city Kushva.
Verkhnyaya Tura is located on the railway line opened in 1906 Kushva ( station Goroblagodatskaja ) - Serov. The train station of the city is called Verkhnaya.
History
Verkhnyaya Tura originated in 1737 as a settlement at an iron foundry ( Turinski zavod / Tura - work, after the river ). After the founding of ferrous and place the lower Tura work ( Нижнетуринский завод / Nischneturinski zavod, today Nischnjaja Tura ) in 1754 or 1766 it was renamed the Werchneturinski zavod (Upper Tura work ). 1941 was the place municipal law, with more significant settlement industry further south - to Kushva - and to the north - to Nischnjaja Tura - decreased importance and population, but continuously, in contrast to many cities of the Ural in a row.
