Packaging conica

The Verpeln ( packaging ) are a genus of Ascomycota.

Features

The fruiting bodies of Verpeln are long-stalked, hollow apothecia, the head part can be smooth or brain -like. In contrast to the related morels the Verpeln have no sterile ribs. The headboard is attached only at the stem tip and suspended from the rim down. The asci contain two to eight depending on the type spores, they are about 20 to 25 microns long, smooth, breitellipsoid and have small granules ( granules ) at the tips.

Ecology

The Verpeln are saprophytic soil-dwelling organisms that are found in thickets and meadows.

  • Foxglove Verpel ( packaging conica )
  • Krombholz - Verpel ( packaging krombholzii )

Name

The name of the genus is derived from the Latin verpa for male member and takes on the shape of the fruiting body reference.
