Viéthorey

Viéthorey is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Viéthorey is located on 436 m, 10 km north- northeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 29 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located on the gently undulating Kalkhochfläche between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the north, south to the height of Chamois.

The area of ​​7.92 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The entire area is occupied by the water-poor plateau Viéthorey, which is on average 430 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some of larger forest areas, especially the Bois de Reuge in the south. To the east, the plateau is slightly inclined. There are only a few rivulets that seeps through the karstic underground after a short distance. With 494 m is achieved at the level of Charmois in the north of the municipal area is the highest elevation of Viéthorey. To the west of the municipality floor extends to the edge of the Bois des Brosses.

Neighboring communities of Viéthorey are Fontenelle - Montby in the north, Gondenans - Montby and Fontaine- lès- Clerval in the east, the south and Voillans Vergranne and Mésandans in the West.

History

Wall foundations, ramparts and brick findings indicate a Gallo-Roman settlement site in the municipality of Viéthorey. In the Middle Ages Viéthorey belonged successively to the dominions Mont Martin, Clerval and Montby. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Viéthorey is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

The former chapel was enlarged from 1770 to 1771 and expanded to the village church of Notre -Dame de l' Immaculée Conception.

Population

With 120 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Viéthorey is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 321 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Viéthorey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Voillans after Gondenans - Montby. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 10 km.
