Vinci, Tuscany

Vinci is a town with 14,296 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) near the Italian town of Empoli in the Province of Florence, Region of Tuscany.

Geography

The place is located about 97 m above sea level. The community area is 54 km ², the population density 265 people per km ².

The districts include Anchiano, Apparita, Badia a Passignano, burrino, Collegonzi, Faltognano, La Stella, Mercatale, Orbignano, Petroio, Piccaratico, Salvino, San Donato, San Pantaleo, Santa Lucia, Sant'Amato, Sant'Ansano, Sovigliana, spicchio, Toiano and Vitolini.

The neighboring municipalities are Capraia e Limite, Carmignano (PO ), Cerreto Guidi, Empoli, Lamporecchio (PT) and Quarrata ( PT).

History

Until August 12, 1254 the place was owned by the Guidi, after which it was occupied by the Republic of Florence and explained to the community. President Luigi Einaudi explained the place on July 15, 1954 due to its historical importance to the city.

1962, the Director and Honorary Citizen of Prof. Vordemberge founded an " outdoor studio " for the art students of the Cologne factory schools ( which existed until 1971).
