Virginia Gardens is a municipality in Miami -Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida with 2,375 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Virginia Gardens is located 4 km west of Miami and is immediately adjacent to the north of the Miami International Airport. In the north the municipality borders on Miami Springs.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 2,375 inhabitants distributed in 949 households. The population density was 2968.8 inh. / Km ². 90.7 % of the population were white, 2.7% African American, 0.0% Native American and 1.7 % Asian Americans. 2.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.1% in different ethnic groups. 77.3 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 29.6 % of all households lived in 33.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 65.7 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.64 persons and the average family size is 3.27 people.

23.9 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.8% were 20-39 years old, 29.9% were 40-59 years old and 21.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 41 years. 48.4 % of the population were male and 51.6 % female.

The average annual income was $ 47,902, while 5.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 71.66 % of the population spoke Spanish and 28.33 %.

Traffic

By Virginia Gardens Florida State Road 948 leads immediately south of the municipality is the Miami International Airport.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 81 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There were two injuries, six burglaries, thefts and 13 six car thefts.
