Visselhoevede [ fɪsl̩hø vədə ː ] ( Low German Visselhöövd ) is a small town in the district of Rotenburg ( Wumme), Lower Saxony, in the Lüneburg Heath.

Geography

Location

Visselhoevede is on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath on the river Vissel (also Vissel Bach) in the center of the triangle cities - Bremen -Hamburg -Hannover. The area is mainly dominated by agricultural land ( 107.09 km ²). 26.44 km ² is forest area and 5.22 km ² courtyard or building surface. The town is located 70 m above sea level. The highest point is the mountain in the district Drögenbostel hell with 93.4 m. In the nucleus arises from the Vissel and in the district Hiddingen the Rodau. History

Middle Ages

Visselhoevede has developed around the source of the river Vissel. There was a pagan sanctuary at this point. The first known written mention of the village falls on the year 1258th A charter of 1288 confirms the transfer of Gografschaft Visselhoevede at the Verden Bishop Konrad.
