Wakayama (Japanese和 歌 山 市, -shi) is a city and the administrative center of Wakayama Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan and is located on the Kii Channel.

Wakayama is located at the mouth of the river Kinokawa.

Wakayama has a University and a medical college. In addition to mechanical engineering there are cotton, leather and pharmaceutical industries.
