Waldburg-Sonnenburg

The county Sonnenberg (from the 15th century, before rule ), with headquarters at Burg Sonnenberg Nüziders was a county of the Holy Roman Empire and was part of the Habsburg Further Austria, Vorarlberg then as part of Tyrol ( from 1867 own crown land ).

Geography

The rule Sonnenberg ranged from Last in Feldkirch with interruption to the Arlberg and included the southern Walgau ( the left bank of the Ill Stallur to Frastanz ), the Gamperdonatal, the Brandner and the Kloster to the Arlberg. Then belonged to the county and the rule Jagdberg ( northwesterly Walgau ), the rule Blumenegg ( northeasterly Walgau and Großwalsertal ) and the court Tannberg.

The territory of the rule included not only Nüziders the territory of the municipalities Frastanz and Nenzing, brush, Bürserberg and fire, as well as Innerbraz Klösterle and Dalaas, but not Bludenz, whose reign comprised the Montafon. The rule Rosenegg ( brush ), initially sun mountains driven, has been united in 1474 with the reign Bludenz.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a golden sun in blue on a triple mount. The three mountain can be found in natural colors or in gold ( as in the coat of arms of the Crown Land Vorarlberg 1864 ).

The coat of arms of the Counts Sonnenberg ( Golden Sun Mountain in blue) is still a part of the overall coat of arms of the Princely Family Waldburg- Wolfegg Waldburg- Zeil and Waldburg- Zeil - Lustenau - Hohenems house Waldenburg. The community Nüziders used this coat of arms, with the triple mount in black.

History

Documented the Lords of Sonneberg, the Montfort were first mentioned in 1242, with the division of an estate in 1260 came the reign of the line Werdenberg- Sargans. In 1258 the castle was built in Bludenz - it has been called since its reconstruction 1409/10 Burg Sonnenberg.

Steward Eberhard I of the house Waldenburg, brother of Jacob, George I and Ursula, son of Johann von Waldenburg, acquired on 19 July 1455 from his later son, the Barbara ( George) Will Count of Berg -Sargans (approx. 1427 -1504 ) and his brother Wilhelm, of the dynasty of Montfort, the festivals and rule Sonnenberg, which ranged from Feldkirch to the Arlberg to 15,000 guilders. The adjoining dominion to the Montafon valley Bludenz he has held as a deposit.

Emperor Frederick III. rose on August 11, 1463 rule Sonnenberg to the county, and the family Eberhard I and their descendants, to the reigning imperial counts.

After a long struggle, in which the Sonnenberg Castle was destroyed, sold, Count Eberhard I, according to an agreement dated August 31, 1474 the County of Sonnenberg for 34,000 florins to Duke Sigismund of Austria, governor to Innsbruck. The last money from that sale was only many years later his heir, George III. of Waldburg- Zeil, who was married to his first marriage with the heiress part Apollonia, daughter of Johann von Sonnenberg. He noticed the sun bergische rule assets in 1511 after the assassination of Count Andreas too.

Wilhelm von Waldburg- Trauchburg (1504-1557) was married to the heiress to part of Sibylla, daughter of Andreas. He sold the castle Ortenstein 1521 Ludwig Tschudi of Glarus.

After extinction of the last count ( Waldenburg ) Sonnenberg of the title Earl of Sonnenberg passed to the House of Habsburg. Just as the house Waldburg the House of Habsburg leads the sun bergische coat of arms, and was entitled as a by- title of Emperor of Austria until 1918.
