Weesby

Weesby (Danish: Vesby ) is a municipality in the district of Schleswig -Flensburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Geography

Weesby is located about 18 kilometers west of Flensburg on the Danish border.

Policy

Of the nine seats in the municipal council has the voter community WGW A since the local elections in 2013 five seats and voters Community AWGW 90 four.

Weesby located in the eastern part of the former Karrharde. The historic seal of this old administrative body shows five deciduous trees with spherical crown. In the coat of arms of the adjacent, likewise the Karrharde associated parish Medelby place these trees are concretized as alders. In recognition of the fact that Weesby belongs to the parish Medelby, the municipality has adopted this form of reproduction. The place name is of Danish origin and means " village in the swamp ." The alder but is the typical tree species in swampy, marshy terrain and often found in the municipality today. It is therefore useful in the borough arms. The number of alder leaves refers to the three districts Bögelhuus, Weesbydamm and Weesbyfeld. The anvil is reminiscent of the old village smithy, which fulfilled an important function for the entire rural structure catchment area of the municipality.

Economy and infrastructure

The community is predominantly agricultural.

South of Weesby runs the federal highway 199 from Flensburg to Niebüll.
