Weitenhagen, Nordvorpommern

Weitenhagen is a municipality west of Stralsund in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen. The community is managed by the Office Franzburg- Richtenberg with headquarters in the city Franzburg.

Geography and transport

Weitenhagen is about 25 km southwest of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund and about 18 km south of Barth. North of the village, the B 105 runs

History

The district Behr forest was first documented in the mid-14th century. With the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, the city came under Swedish rule after the place previously belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania. In 1815 the church and Pomerania came to the Prussian province of Pomerania.

The congregation was then until 1952 part of the district Pommern -Barth and belonged then to 1994 to the circle Stralsund in the district of Rostock. Since 1990 Weitenhagen part of the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.
