Wincanton plc

Wincanton PLC is a UK based logistics company based in Chippenham in the southern English county of Wiltshire.

Wincanton sees itself as a full service company along the entire supply chain (Supply Chain), from the supply of raw materials to recycling of waste materials. With approximately 30,000 employees and an annual turnover of 1.93 billion pounds (2.76 billion euros in 2007), it is one of the market leaders in Europe ( as of 2007 in third place ) and one of the largest logistics service providers in the world.

History

The company was founded in 1925 operates under the name Wincanton Transport & Engineering Ltd. (WT & E), then a subsidiary of the Dairy Group West Surrey Central Dairy Company Ltd and still primarily in the maintenance and equipment of dairy processing machines and equipment. In the 1970s, WT & E was split into the machinery sector and the transport sector Wincanton Transport Ltd ( WTL ), which mainly dealt with loading and transportation of petroleum products and milk. After further restructuring and acquisitions, notably 1993 Glass Glover Group and in December 2000, P & O Trans European, the company went in May 2001 at the London Stock Exchange (LSE ). Numerous other acquisitions of competitors followed. Since 2006 Wincanton is listed in the FTSE 250 Index.

Some areas of Wincanton have now been sold to different buyers.

Originally a pure inland carriers, also takes supply and waste transport for the Saarland mining industry and is active in track construction; their daughter, the private railway company Unisped operates inter alia, the port railway Worms and regional activities of the Con Train GmbH, a subsidiary of the Mannheim-based energy company MVV GmbH.
  • Wincanton Rail GmbH in St. Ingbert, a German private railway company is also a subsidiary of the Group.

  • Pullman Fleet Services ( Doncaster): vehicle leasing and maintenance

Wincanton operates through its subsidiaries also own container terminals in Neuss, Frankfurt, Mainz, Worms, Mannheim, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.
