Women's United Soccer Association

The Women's United Soccer Association (abbreviation: WUSA ) was the first professional league in women's football. In 2001 it launched in the U.S. with eight teams.

This professional league was established as the other American professional leagues: There was no promotion and relegation and the teams did not belong to clubs, but investors. There was a salary cap per team ( salary cap ), although the top stars of the league still had additional contracts. In this league also played many foreigners. From Germany were Birgit Prinz, Maren Meinert, Sandra Minnert, Bettina Wiegmann, Fitschen, Steffi Jones, Conny Pohlers and Jennifer Meier active in the WUSA.

The WUSA was discontinued in 2003 due to financial reasons.
