Xi’an MA60

The Xi'an MA60 (新 舟60, Xinzhou 60, which stands for English " Modern Ark ", German " Modern Ark ") is a turboprop airliner from the Chinese manufacturer Xi'an Aircraft Industrial Corporation for 50 to 60 passengers. The MA60 is a stretched version of Xi'an Y7 -200A.

History

The MA60 is a further development of Soviet transport aircraft Antonov An-26, which had been manufactured under license since 1983. Designed for regional and feeder services aircraft is a high wing and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127J - turboprop ( PW127G in the cargo version ) that produce their performance on four blade propeller of Hamilton Sundstrand.

The first flight took place on 12 March 2000, delivery began in August 2000. Complete sale is handled in China through a leasing company, which was initially 60 machines in order. First customer was the Sichuan Airways, which ordered five machines and granted an option for another 5. The unit price in 2002 was approximately U.S. $ 11 million. With Air Zimbabwe was 2004, the first foreign customer are obtained. A variant of a military reconnaissance aircraft is in preparation. By mid- 2008 138 machines had been sold.

On June 29, 2008, an improved version of the MA60, the MA600, their roll-out. It has a new interior design, new avionics and ETOPS capability. In addition, the development of the 70-seat MA700 was announced at this time.

Since February 2014, the Chinese government has all MA60 Earth-bound due to increased problems with the landing gear.

Incidents

  • On 11 January 2009, an MA -60 crashed while landing at the Caticlan - Malay Airport, in the accident no people were harmed, the machine had to be written off, however.   • On 25 June 2009, another MA -60 Zest Airways crashed on the Caticlan - Malay Airport, in the accident no people were harmed.   • On 7 May 2011, a Merpati Nusantara Airlines Xian MA60 the crashed on approach to Kaimana Airport in West Papua into the sea. All 21 passengers and 4 crew members on board were killed.
  • On June 10, 2013, Xi'an MA60 Merpati Nusantara Airlines crashed at the landing at the airport of Kupang in West Timor on the island. It should have been slightly injured two people. There were 45 passengers on Flight MZ 6517th
  • On June 10, 2013 crashed another plane of Myanma Airways Myanmar as they shot over the runway of the airport Kawthaung addition.
