Yasser Seirawan

Yasser Seirawan ( born March 24, 1960 in Damascus / Syria) is an American chess master of Syrian origin; his father was Syrian, his mother English.

Life

1967 emigrated Seirawans family to the United States, first to Virginia Beach in 1972 to Seattle. The four-time champion of the USA, who learned to play chess at age 12, in 1979 in Skien U20 Junior World Champion and in 1980 he received the Grandmaster title. It developed in the 1980s, one of the strongest players in the world. He was Sekundant Viktor Kortschnois at the world championship match in 1981 against Anatoly Karpov.

Seirawan won in the 1980s, a variety of tournaments, including twice (1983 and 1987 ), the major open tournament of Lugano and the New York Open ( 1985 and 1987 ). In 1990 he won in Haninge in front of the former world champion Anatoly Karpov. On the Chess Olympiad in Dubai in 1986, he defeated the then reigning world champion Garry Kasparov.

Twice he managed to qualify for the Candidates Tournament: In 1985 he was Interzonal Biel Second, 1987 Interzonal of Subotica also. Together with Bruce Harper Yasser Seirawan has its own variant of chess Seirawan Chess released in 2007.
