Yevgeny Grishin (speed skater)

Yevgeny Romanovich Grishin (Russian: Евгений Романович Гришин; born March 23, 1931 in Tula, † July 9, 2005 in Moscow) was a Soviet speed skater.

At the 1956 Olympic Games in Cortina d' Ampezzo, he asserted on his victories over 500 meters ( 40.2 seconds ) and 1,500 m ( 2:08,6 minutes ) each on world records. 1960 at the Olympic Winter Games in Squaw Valley Grishin won on these two distances again gold, the medal over 1500 meters but had to share with the contemporaneous Norwegian Roald Aas. As early as 1956 he had to win over this route to share with his fellow countryman Yuri Mikhailov, thus reaching a still valid today novelty at the Winter Olympics in an individual sport. Yevgeny Grishin was the first runner who had underbid more than 500 m, the 40 -second mark.
