Záhoří (Písek District)

The place Záhoří with 737 inhabitants ( 2004) is located in South Bohemia, (Czech Republic).

History

The first colonization by Slavs took place around the 5th century. Since the beginning of the 14th century the village belonged to the lords of Rosenberg. During the Hussite Wars, the village was often plundered by the imperial armies. The inhabitants were Hussites. 1472 the Zvíkov castle and the town on Bohuslav from Swan Mountain was pledged. The Schwanberger reigned about 150 years.

Attractions

  • Church of St. Michael from the reign of Charles IV. The first chapel was rebuilt in 1352 to a church and the administration took the Cross with the Red Star, who belonged to Bechyně. The church was destroyed during the Hussite wars in 1639 and rebuilt.
