Zavidovići

Zavidovići is a city and municipality in the Zenica-Doboj Canton in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in a mountainous and heavily forested region at the confluence of rivers Bosna, Krivaja and Gostovic. The municipality has about 40,000 inhabitants, of which one-third lives in the city. The majority of the inhabitants are Muslim Bosniaks.

History

The town developed along with the woodworking industry at the time of Austria-Hungary. The first station was built in 1879. The station building at that time was the first building, and the city grew around this building around. 1911 Zavidovići was founded as a community. At this time the place had about 3800 inhabitants.

More recently created new industries: clothing industry, food industry, construction, trade and tourism.

In the last war there were numerous civilian and military casualties. In total, there were 685, of which 200 civilians. There are economic objects, houses, schools and power plants destroyed. The urban regeneration is very slow. So far, only objects were replaced, which are for the function of the city of importance.

Community partnership

Zavidovići maintains a partnership with the Italian community Roncadelle in the province of Brescia ( Lombardy ).
