Zemplínske Hámre

Zemplínske Hamre ( to 1956 Slovak " Sninské Hamre "; German Josef Hammer, Hungarian Józsefhámor - to 1844 Józsefvölgy - Also Szinna Hámor ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia.

The town was south of Snina until the end of the 18th century. Originating from the Zips entrepreneur Joseph Rholl found in the mountains of Vihorlat rich iron ore and silicate deposits. For the development of resources he built a hammer mill and moved to workers, especially from the places Göllnitz, Margaret, Rhollhütte ( today part of Margecany ) and other places in the area to Zipser. The result was a typical early industrial working class neighborhood, this was officially called 1809 Josefsthal (Slovak Jozefova dolina, Hungarian Józsefvölgy ).

With the decline of the iron and steel industry in the late 1880s, many inhabitants migrated from (1877: 417 inhabitants, 1903: 323 inhabitants in 1918: 128 inhabitants). The rest of the inhabitants sought primarily in the agriculture and charcoal burning.

1901 a chapel was built in the place, 1963 Joseph the Worker Church dedicated.
