1936 Soviet Constitution

The Soviet Constitution of 1936 (Russian Конституция СССР 1936 года, also known as Stalin Constitution) was the second Constitution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It was adopted on 5 December 1936 by the VIII Extraordinary Congress of Soviets of the USSR and the Secretary General of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, proclaimed. It replaced the Soviet Constitution of 1924. On October 7, 1977, she herself was again superseded by the Constitution of 1977.

The 1936 Constitution was formally a democratic constitution and guaranteed human rights and general elections by secret ballot. Through this seemingly democratic constitution hoped the Soviet Union to be acceptable to the West as a partner in an alliance against Nazism.
