1978 1. deild

The Faroe Islands Football Cup 1978 was held in the first Deild said first Faroese league and overall was the 36th season. It started on April 23, 1978 and ended on 24 September 1978.

Movers MB Miðvágur returned after 30 years back in the top flight. Master was HB Tórshavn, which could thus win the title for the tenth time. HB remained undefeated throughout the entire season. This acquired after the introduction of the first Deild far only ÍF Fuglafjørður 1979 and B71 Sandur 1989. Defending TB Tvøroyri landed on the second place. Course of the season

TB Tvøroyri caught with five wins from their first five games a perfect start to the season and finished well from the start square one. HB Tórshavn remained in the first five games while also unbeaten, but played four times in a draw. In a direct duel of the two teams at the seventh match HB suggested home crowd TB with 3:2 and could close the gap to two points. Between the two teams to VB Vágur was still a point behind the top, their first and only up to this point defeat with 1:4 already conceded on the second match at home against TB Tvøroyri and at eight games at home with 0:2 had to admit defeat against the new Second HB Tórshavn, while the projection of TB due to the 0-0 draw with KÍ Klaksvík melted to a point. Both HB and TB won their next four games, so it came to the decision for the championship on the 14th and final day. Here, both sides met directly. The home match of the league leaders TB Tvøroyri was lost, so that they had their top position which they held continuously from the first to the 13th Round still dispose to HB Tórshavn 1-2.
