1981 UEFA European Under-18 Championship

The first U-18 Football Championship was held in the period from May 25 to June 3, 1981 in the Federal Republic of Germany. While the German team became European champion with a 1-0 victory over Poland, Austria was eliminated in the first round, while Switzerland as well as the GDR for the final round will not qualify.

Mode

The 16 qualified teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. Within the groups played each team once against each other. The group winners reached the semi-finals. The winners of those ties contest the final, the losers play for third place.
