1991 Soviet First League

The Perwaja League 1991 was the last season the second highest Soviet football league. The Soviet Union was dissolved in late 1991, and therefore also their football system. The clubs involved were playing after the 1991 season in their respective national leagues, eleven of the 22 clubs in the newly formed Russian league.

Many of the 1991, second-rate clubs could now play perfectly in the following season in the national leagues. Only the Abkhaz FK Dinamo Sukhumi had to temporarily suspend its game action, as the state affiliation of Abkhazia was controversial and plunged the country into civil war after 1991.
