Generally
- The German Broadcasting Archive inserted with the two -volume history of radio program during the Weimar Republic before the most extensive study on the early years of radio in Germany.
- January 13 - The Luxembourg media group CLT and Bertelsmann's UFA merge to form Europe's largest television company CLT -UFA.
- 1st May - In Austria enters the amended Regional Radio Act into force - provides a comprehensive private radio landscape - almost 75 years after the start of radio broadcasting in Austria.
- May 31 - The Prime Minister of Baden- Württemberg and Rhineland -Palatinate signed an agreement to establish a two-country institution under the name Southwest Broadcasting.
- July 7 - The ProSieben Media AG goes public.
- October 22 - In Vienna, designed on an idea by Alfred drivers RadioKulturhaus along with the revitalized Grand Sendesaal is opened.
Radio
- On the Chicago station WFMT, the latest edition of The Studs Terkel Program is broadcast. The show was every weekday since 1952 in the program.
- 1st May - who specializes in electronic dance music radio station Evosonic German first goes on air.
- May 5 - In St. Pölten, the foundation stone is laid for the last of the nine ORF studios.
- 20 June - The electric station Sunshine Live takes on the transmit mode.
- August 29 - first broadcast of Radio Eins in Berlin. The new station is created by the merger of B Radio Two and Radio Brandenburg.
- October 3 - The classical music station NDR, SFB and ORB, Radio 3, comes into operation.
