1999 IIHF Women's World Championship

The 5th World Ice Hockey Women's Championship took place from March 8 to March 14, 1999 the Finnish cities of Espoo and Vantaa instead. Canada remained unbeaten at the fifth World Cup and won his fifth title. For the first time a B- World Cup was held. The tournament was held from 28 March 1999 in the French Colmar 21. First Movers in the A group was Japan.

The title struggles of women should not be as before, held every year and every two years in the future. In addition, it should now give a classification according to groups and women's teams. To determine the particular grouping in 1998 were held qualifiers for women. Directly qualified for the A group are the first five of the Ice Hockey World Championship of Women 1997 ( Canada, USA, Finland, China, Sweden); to join three teams from the qualifier. A qualification for World Cup

For new grouping with the women a qualification was held prior to the World Championships. 10 teams were allowed to participate in this qualification. These were the teams ranked 6-8 Women 's World Cup 1997 ( Russia, Switzerland, Norway) - the first five of this World Cup (Canada, USA, Finland, China, Sweden ) were directly qualified for the A- group - the Sixth A- 1996 European ( Germany ), and the top six teams in the B- European Championship 1996 ( Denmark, Latvia, Czech Republic, France, Netherlands). The qualification was held in two rounds. In the first round, the teams played in the squares of 3-6 Women's B- European Championship 1996 ( Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, Netherlands ) in a tournament two participants for the second qualifying round. This then met there on the remaining qualifiers. The second round was played in two groups; the two group winners were directly qualified for the A-WC, the two runners-up played a third A- WM participants. The failed in the qualifying teams then played in the B group. The first phase of qualifying was held from 27 to 29 January 1998, the second phase from 23 to 27 March 1998.

A World Championship

The A World Cup was played in the Finnish cities of Espoo and Vantaa, from 8 to 14 March 1999. The Canadian team won with a 3-1 final victory over the United States the fifth world title at the fifth edition of the tournament. The bronze medal secured, the Finnish national team in the small final with a win over Sweden.
