2001 Women's European Volleyball Championship
The European Women's Volleyball in 2001 took place from September 22 to 30 held in Bulgaria. The matches were played in Sofia and Varna. Russia won the title for the 17th time.
Mode
The twelve participants were divided into the first round in two groups of six. The group winners and runners reached the semi-finals. The Third and Fourth played to the ranks of five to eight.

Bulgaria was set as host. The top three teams in the European championship in 1999 were also automatically qualified. These were Russia as the defending champion, the Second and the Third Italy Croatia.
Twelve teams played for eight other places in the finals. In three groups of four, she competed against each opponent home and away. The top two teams in each group and the two best third- qualified.
