2003 Women's European Volleyball Championship

The Volleyball European Women took place in 2003 to 28th September in Ankara on 20. Poland won in the final against the host nation for the first time the title. Germany was third, while Russia for the first time in the European Championship history missed a medal.

Mode

The twelve participants were divided into the first round in two groups of six. The group winners and runners reached the semi-finals. The Third and Fourth played to the ranks of five to eight.

Qualification

Turkey was set as host. The top three teams in the European championship 2001 were also automatically qualified. These were Russia as the defending champion, the Second and the Third Italy Bulgaria.

Twelve teams played for eight other places in the finals. In three groups of four, she competed against each opponent home and away. The top two teams in each group and the two best third- qualified.
