2006 Horn of Africa food crisis

The hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa in 2006 threatened according to FAO estimates in January 2006 about 11 million people - especially ranchers - in northeastern Kenya, southern Somalia, southern and eastern Ethiopia and Djibouti. She was the result of drought and conflict (especially the Somali civil war ) in the region. Later in the year 2006, there was in parts of the same areas to floods, which aggravated the situation.

Mid-2007 was the situation in southern Somalia remains critical after hundreds of thousands had been displaced by fighting in the capital Mogadishu and the rains of the rainy season Gu (April-June ) had failed below average.
