2008–09 Elite Women's Hockey League

The 2008/09 season was the fifth season of the Elite Women's Hockey League, a woman Hockey League. In its fifth year, was attended by a total of nine teams from Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia. The fifth master of the league was again the HC Slavia Prague, which repeated the title last year.

After the first games of the season were completed, had to withdraw Agordo hockey from Italy from the league, as the main sponsor of its commitments could not keep. In addition, the two Viennese clubs formed the syndicate SG Sabres / Flyers United. With the OSC Berlin and the ESC Planegg / Würmtal first time took two German participants in the competition. A team from Hungary renounced first time since the founding of the League to participate.

Mode

The ultimate eight participants played in a double round in the league system of the courts, so that each team fought out 14 games. The team with the most points at the end won the title. A win is a team received three points with a victory after extra two points. However, the losing team received after the regular season no points for a defeat after extra one point.
