2008 Men's European Volleyball League

The 2008 season of the European Volleyball League was the fifth edition of the competition. It began on June 13 and ended on July 20.

Mode

The preliminary round was played in two groups. One group consisted of five teams, the other four teams. The teams played in five or four of four tournaments against each other. In the group of five each paused a team. The two group winners and the best runners-up qualify alongside host Turkey for the Final Four.

The Final Four was held from July 19 to 20 in Bursa (Turkey). The Slovaks sat by with a narrow victory ( 19:17 in the tiebreak ) against the German team that gave up some key players because of the upcoming Olympics. In the other semi-final, the Dutch defeated the hosts. With another success in the finals, the Slovaks secured their first international title since independence. The German team also lost the match for third place against Turkey in the tiebreak after they had already led 2-0.
