2009–10 Costa Rican Primera División season

The 2009/10 season included the 93rd and the 94th edition of the Primera División de Costa Rica, the Costa Rican highest football league. This season, two championships - Invierno 2009 and Verano Scotiabank Scotiabank 2010 - played out. From the results of both championships a total table was created to determine the relegated to the Liga de Ascenso - Segunda Division. The winners of both championships qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League 2010/11. Liberia Mia CF changed his name to Verano Scotiabank go to in Águilas Guanacastecas. Brujas FC won the Torneo Invierno Scotiabank in 2009 the first CD Saprissa with the Torneo Verano Scotia Bank 2010 29th league title in club history.

Competition mode

In season 2009/10 two championships were played out played out, first from July to December the Torneo de Invierno 2009, then played from January to May, the Torneo de Verano 2010 The Torneos were in the following mode.:

  • The twelve participating teams were divided into two groups A and B.
  • Within each group, the teams met each other once at home and once away, against the teams in the other group there was a game each. Overall, there were so 16 games per team.
  • After the group stage runners-up were against the third place of the other group in the quarterfinals in return game.
  • In the semifinals, the group winners competed against the winners of the two quarter-final pairings in return game.
  • In the final, the two semi-final winners clashed in return game. The winner is Rican champion for half a year Costa.
  • At the end of the season, a total table was created to determine the División relegated to the Liga de Ascenso - Segunda.
  • The masters of both Torneos ( Invierno and Verano ) qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League.

Special additional rules

  • In each squad ( of a maximum of 25 players consisting ) to a maximum of five foreigners were located.
  • Each team had to come each to 1440 minutes of playing time from U-21 players in both halves of season ( Invierno and Verano ) in the group stage. Failure to achieve the 1440 minutes 3-5 points were subtracted (depending on the available minutes).

  • * To Verano 2010 Scotiabank towards Liberia Mia CF changed his name to Águilas Guanacastecas. They will now play not only in Liberia, but also in Nicoya and Santa Cruz.

Group B

  • * San Carlos played the majority of the Verano at the Estadio de Pital too since the Carlos Ugalde remodeled and an artificial turf was laid.
