2nd Parachute Division (Germany)

The 2nd Parachute Division was a major unit of the Air Force, which was used in World War II in ground combat.

History

The 2nd Parachute Division was formed in 1943 at Vannes in Brittany and first fought in Italy, where she conducted the liberation of the set of the new Italian government dictator Mussolini among others, the company oak.

Towards the end of 1943 parts were moved from her to Greece to take the Aegean island of Leros. After successful completion of this company, she was transferred to the Eastern Front, where it was positioned in the new 6th Army. There they fought, to the transfer to France.

Here they took part in 1944 in the Battle of Brest and was destroyed in September. In October of the same year but it was already set up again and fought first in still occupied by the Germans Holland until in April 1945 in the Ruhr pocket surrendered to the Allies.
