4:13 Dream

4:13 Dream is the thirteenth studio album by the British band The Cure. It was published in October 2008 by Geffen Records.

Background

For the album 4:13 Dream The Cure had to come up with an unusual advertising campaign, in which the number 13 was of great importance. So the band 1 May 2008 announced that their new and 13th album would be released on September 13 of the same year. Until then, a new single should be decoupled from the album on every 13th of the month. As a first release appeared in " The Only One " on May 13. It was followed by " Freak Show" on June 13, " Sleep When I'm Dead" on July 13, and finally " The Perfect Boy" on August 13. Each of the singles contained a B - side, a new song that was not selected for the final album.

On July 16, the release date of the album was postponed to 13 October and on 13 September instead EP Hypnagogic States published which contained remixes of the previous four singles. The release date of the album was then postponed again and was finally published on 27 October. It contained 13 pieces, four of which were released as singles, what the title reflects 4:13 Dream.

During the announcement of the compilation of the final album Robert Smith explained that only the poppigsten Songs of the originally planned double album for 4:13 Dream were selected. The more Moody songs could appear on a later album under certain circumstances.

4:13 Dream debuted at # 16 in the Billboard 200 and sold 24,000 times in the first week in the United States. In the charts, the album reached number 21

Criticism

On the website of Allmusic got the album 2 out of 5 stars. Only the songs "The Perfect Boy" and "This. Here and Now. With You" went under the skin, but would be " surrounded by too many half-baked melodies and shapeless, colorless sound waves. "

The Rolling Stone gave 4:13 Dream 3.5 out of 5 stars and wrote that the album contains a "few beautiful songs ."
