( 4928 ) Vermeer is an asteroid of the inner main belt, discovered by Soviet astronomer Lyudmila Georgievna Karatschkina on October 12, 1982 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095).

The rotation period of the asteroid was measured for the first time on September 9 and 10, 2010, at Osservatorio della Regione astronomico Aosta Valley in Nus -Saint- Barthelemy from the Italian astronomer Albino Carbognani with a 81-cm Ritchey -Chrétien Cassegrain determined telescope, and with 3.687 (± 0.003) hours. The short rotation period and the two long observation times could ( 4928 ) Vermeer be used as a test object for the method of the redshift measurement at 17 other asteroids.

The asteroid was named on 1 September 1993 by Jan Vermeer, who is one of the most famous Dutch painters of the Baroque.
