505 (dinghy)

The 505 is an international two-man dinghy. Your name is derived from its length (5.05 m). It is considered very fast, agile and very lively. It is ideally suited for demanding racers. The 505 races will be sailed on a very high level, as many top sailors (World Champion / European Champion / Olympic champion ) have switched from other boat classes on this boat. Was designed since 1955 the international class in 1954 by the Briton John Westell.

The 505 now has a large spread, so by 2012, a total of 9100 boats registered in Germany for years .. take about 100 participants at least three ranking regattas. Regatta and Races

2005, the 50th World Championship class was held. There were 170 vessels from twelve nations from four continents. So this was the largest ever World Cup in history. Was sailed in Warnemünde. Winners were the world champions of 2001 and 2003, European champion in 2004 and eight-time winner of the Kieler Woche, the German team Wolfgang Hunger / Holger Jess.

Hayling Iceland ( GB), located on the Solent, 2006 was held the World Championship. In Step 113 boats of this class were from 13 nations. Winners were the British Mark Upton -Brown and Ian Mitchell ( GBR) before Howard Hamlin and Jeff Nelson ( USA) and Jens Findel and Johannes Tellen (GER ).

In the 52nd World Championship 505 in Adelaide, Australia from 22 January to 2 February 2007, the Danish team in January Saugmann and Morten Ramsbaek won. Two German teams placed among the top 10

2012 was the World Cup in La Rochelle / France instead and had 190 boats with the largest participation has ever given at a 505 WM hat.2013 - at the World Championships in Hamburg team Lehmann / Oehme Barbados became world champion.
